2 Ways to Use Templates

There are two ways to use templates:

Starting a New Answer File by Using a Template

To use an existing template as the foundation for a new answer file:

Step 1:  Open the Lawgic program.  From the Select Title/File dialog box, select your title from the list box and click Templates.

Step 2:  This action displays the Open Template dialog box with a list of previously saved templates. Select a template and click OK.

The new answer file is automatically given all information contained in the template, such as answers, notes, etc. (Note: You may notice that the name of the template file that you selected is not displayed at the top left corner of the screen.  Rather, the name 'New File' is displayed.  This is to remind you to save your file.)

Step 3:  Select Save or Save As from the File menu to name your new answer file. Enter a description in the Description box. (When subsequently selecting a file to open at the Select Title/File screen, click the Description button and you or your colleagues can read this description to determine whether this is the right file to open.)

When you begin answering questions the program will only present questions that are not pre-answered as part of your template.  This saves a tremendous amount of time and ensures consistency in your documents.

 Note:

You can view the template answers by selecting Expand All from the Answer menu to expand the Navigator and then select Show Answers from the Answer menu.  This opens a middle column which displays the answers. To print template answers select Send from the File menu and then Navigator/Outline.  Select with Short Answers (or Long Answers).  A document named 'Outline.doc' is created and opened in your word processor where you can print it.

Loading a Template into the Current Answer File

The Load Template feature can be used to load or 'copy' Template answers into either a new answer file or a previously saved answer file with answers.

Step 1:  Select New from the Select Title/File dialog box (or Files to open a previously saved answer file.)

Step 2:  From within the answer file, select Load Template on the Answers menu.  At the Select Title to Load a Template dialog box, select the Title whose template you would like to use (the default is your current Title) and click OK.

Step 3:  At the Load Template dialog box, select the template you would like to load and click OK.

Step 4:  Select Save or Save As from the File menu to name your new answer file (or save your current one). If this is a new file, enter a description in the Description box. (When subsequently selecting a file to open at the Select Title/File screen, click the Description button and you or your colleagues can read this description to determine whether this is the right file to open.)

Additionally, the Load Template feature can be used to load a second template of answers on top of the first one, or to load template answers on top of any answer file that you have previously opened.

Loading Selected Answers from the Template:

You have the option of loading only certain answers and notes from the template.

Step 3:  At the Load Template dialog, de-select Load ALL answers/notes. This will open the Open which Answers/Notes dialog, which displays the following list:

Lawgic00000003.gif  Flagged answers

Lawgic00000003.gif  Flagged notes

Lawgic00000003.gif  Unflagged answers

Lawgic00000003.gif  Unflagged notes

"Flagged" and "Unflagged" refer to any questions that you have flagged (or not flagged) in the current session (and not in the previous session when the template was created). For example, if questions 11 and 15 are currently flagged on screen, selecting "Flagged Answers" from the above list will cause only the answers to 11 and 15 to be loaded from the targeted template.
