Verifying and Changing Your Word Processor

During installation, Setup looks for your word processor. However, if you have more than one word processor, change your word processors, or have installed to a non-standard word processor path name, you can change your word processor by selecting Set Preferences from the Edit menu on the Lawgic menu bar.  You will see the following Set User Preferences dialog box:

To change your word processor you should do the following:

  1. Select the document format.   Select Microsoft Word 97 (or newer) for Word 97, 2000, XP, 2003, or 2007.  Select WordPerfect 8 for Windows (or newer) for WordPerfect 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, X3 or X4.  If you use any of these word processors you can take advantage of advanced formatting and autonumbering features for Word or WordPerfect.

  2. Select the path name:   A "path name" consists of the name of the executable file (with the extension .exe) file for your word processor and the directory in which that file is located. To select the path name, click the BROWSE button to locate the executable file (see chart below).  If you do not know where the file is, you can use the Search function of your computer.  For instance, in Windows 2000 click the Start button in the lower left corner of your computer, then Search, then For Files and Folders.  A Search Results box opens.  Type the name of the executable file (see chart below) into the 'Search for files or folders named' box and click the Search Now button.

Typical path names for several common word processors are:

Microsoft Word 2007

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\winword.exe

Microsoft Word 2003

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\winword.exe

  1. Verify that 'New Styles' formatting is selected.  Be sure that the 'New Styles' box is checked in order to enable advanced formatting and autonumbering.  The 'New Styles' feature can be used with Word 97 (or newer) and WordPerfect 8 (or newer).

  2. After selecting the correct Word Processor path, click OK. All documents sent from Lawgic will now be directed to the word processor of your choice.
